Getting Ready for Christmas!

We are hoping to instill the true value of Christmas in Maya and kai. This year, the kids picked two charities...the Cat Society (where we got Cheeks), and the food pantry. They unselfishly emptied part of their piggy banks and helped to pay for the various items to donate.

On her own accord, Maya stuffed the remains of her piggy bank into a plastic baggy and gave the entire bag to the cat socity representative as soon as we arrived to drop off the supplies. Maya had given over $8.00 of her hard saved money without us even asking. We were completely unaware of her plans.

We also want to teach them that there are multiple ways to give. This year, we returned to our local nursing home to sing Christmas carols to the residents. We had an amazing response with aroud 20 people joining us (many of our fellow carolors were classmates from Maya's pres-school, friends, and neighbors of friends). We were so grateful for their participation. Each family brought wrapped gifts and home-made items. As we sang our last song..."We Wish you a Merry Christmas", the kids passed out the presents and home-made cards to the the residents. It was a wonderful experience.

One comical note: One of the residents asked if the boy on the guitar was my son...when I said yes, she said...oh, I thought he was Elvis!
